![]() The Gaylord Chamber Orchestra In 2000 the idea of formulating a chamber orchestra in Gaylord was originated by an innovative group of musician including Judy Magsig, Kathy Volke and Dr. Wayne Wyrembelski, who agreed to conduct the ensemble. At the onset, the now Gaylord Chamber Orchestra (GCO) performed a number of concerts and developed the Gaylord Youth Orchestra (GYO). In 2004 a formal Board of Directors was formed to help guide the GCO and the GYO in bringing classical, pops, and contemporary music to the Gaylord community and surrounding area. The GCO now presents four concerts each year ranging from small string ensembles to full orchestra. The GCO also features guest artists who perform at special appearances with the orchestra. The GCO is an IRS approved 501(c)3 tax exempt organization and your contributions and donations are tax deductible. The GCO draws regionally for its musicians and is augmented on occasion by additional string players, wind, brass, and percussion players, and a chorus. The GCO is very pleased to have Mr. Thomas Riccobono as conductor for the 2008/2009 concert season. The GYO, under the direction of Dr. Wayne Wyrembelski, consists of string players in intermediate, junior high and high school. The players are expected to take regular private lessons with a qualified teacher. The GYO places equal emphasis on teaching proper string techniques and providing a valid artistic musical experience for all who choose to participate. The GYO is involved in an outreach program, "Strings n' Things," which has introduced thousands of students in Gaylord and the surrounding area schools to live string playing. The program is regularly supported by the Rotary Club of Gaylord. The GYO has presented concerts at the Gaylord Alpenfests and the Youth Arts Festival at the Cheboygan Opera House. |
